We're really excited to be presenting our Dinner/Show concept this year. With some of Aucklands finest talent performing for you our Show really will be fantastic. Add to that a delicious meal and an amazing venue and the ingredients are all there for a Great Night Out. Leon Wharekura is a definite contender to join the masters of Māori showmen such as Sir Howard Morrison and Billy T.James with the release of his debut album It’s a love thing on 28 July (distribution by Ode Records).
The 12-track album containing a collection of classic, timeless love songs, with three Te Reo tunes and one of his own compositions, was produced by local maestro Ernie Semu.
The musical sounds of jazz and swing combined with contemporary arrangements are a perfect complement to Leon Wharekura’s velvety tones. His laid-back stylish singing evokes the ballads of Stevie Wonder, the understated jazziness of Bobby Darin and the sultry sounds of Sergio Mendes and Brazil ’66. He is a master weaver bringing this eclectic repertoire together with real sophistication.
